Abstract: This talk will focus on the three modes of computer science research work (Theory, Construction, Empiricism), quality criteria for empirical work (Credibility, Relevance) and the four research method archetypes. This presentation will also cover some helpful research method templates and “how to ruin your study”: Common mistakes.
Speaker: Lutz Prechelt received a PhD on compiler construction for parallel machines and neural network learning algorithms in 1995 and a habilitation on controlled experimentation in software engineering in 2000, both from University of Karlsruhe (now KIT). He worked as a software engineering manager in industry for three years and then became professor for software engineering at Freie Universität Berlin. His main research interests are agile software development (with a focus on the human factor and mostly using qualitative research methods), empirical research methods, and research quality. He is the founder of Review Quality Collector.
