On July 8th 2020, we were privileged to hear from FAU alumni, Ralf Spengler on Agile development for safety-critical products as part of the AMOS Projects. Ralf is a Software Engineer in ESE – Engineering und Software-Entwicklung GmbH in Erlangen and is highly experienced in the development of safety critical products in agile processes. He provided a comprehensive talk which was very insightful and inspiring.

Abstract: Developing safety critical systems is regulated by standards and laws that often describe strict V-Model approaches. This is covered well by conventional development processes. The growing internet of things (IoT) enforces shorter and shorter release cycles in order to fix security vulnerabilities in time. The answer to that challenge is agile development. On a shallow glance the speed of agile development and the safeness of the conventional one seems to be incompatible. The talk focuses on how to bring those worlds together. Impediments and typical mistakes that occur in daily work and how to cope with them are discussed briefly.
