Kate Stewart (Linux Foundation) on Taking Open Source Projects Through Safety Certification
On Wednesday, 12th of June, at 15:00 Uhr, Kate Stewart of the Linux Foundation will present her talk Taking Open Source Projects through Safety Certification. The talk will take place at FAU’s Technical Faculty campus (Erlangen Süd) in Martensstraße 5/7 room 0.68. The Zephyr Project, a small open source real-time operating system for embedded devices, will feature prominently.
Abstract: Traditional factors to consider in selection of an open source operating system include chip/hardware support, licensing, memory footprint, community health, best practices being followed, and security support. However, very few open source projects have a visible path towards functional safety certification. Zephyr is an open source operating system that is strategically preparing for this goal. A survey of the open source real-time operating system (RTOS) landscape will be included as well as an overview at Zephyr and Linux plans for Safety Certification in this talk.
Biography: Kate Stewart is a Senior Director of Strategic Programs at the Linux Foundation. She has launched Real-Time Linux, Zephyr, CHAOSS, and ELISA projects, and mentors other projects at the Linux Foundation. With 35 years of experience in the software industry, she has held a variety of roles and worked as a developer in Canada, Australia, and the US. For over 20 years has managed software development teams in the US, Canada, UK, India, and China.
