Gang of Google Nexus One Phones Arrived

Google has been a generous sponsor of the AMOS lab course in the past and just doubled, well, ten-folded down: After a trip I found this boatload of Nexus One phones on my desk. It will be very helpful to students to actually experience and experiment with the phones on campus rather than being (mostly) confined to the Android emulator. Thanks so much, Google!!

Survey on Open Source Use in Automotive Industry

Bearingpoint Consulting has teamed up with the Open Source Research group and is providing a survey on the use of open source software in the automotive industry. Bearingpoint is a leading European strategic management consulting firm. Martin Helmreich, one of our graduates, recently started to work at Bearingpoint. The Open Source Research (OSR) Group was founded in Sept 2009, so it has been 16 months since inception. We hope to be writing a year-end summary every year, available to anyone interested. FAU is the university, CS is the computer science department, “we” is the group, and “I” is Dirk Riehle.

More Smart Phones for AMOS Project

After Prof. Riehle paid a visit to the Googleplex in Mountain View, the Android and Educational Outreach folks at Google got so excited about the AMOS Project that they donated two more smart phones on the spot. These are Motorola Droids, see below. These are not GSM phones, however, they have WiFi capability and should work like a charm on campus. Thanks, @Google!
